ScoutBetter Autofill – Extension Privacy Policy

Effective Date: March 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the ScoutBetter Autofill browser extension collects, uses, and protects information when you install and use it. This policy applies only to the browser extension. For how your data is handled in your ScoutBetter web account, please refer to the main website privacy policy on scoutbetter.jobs.

1What the Extension Does

The Extension is designed to help you quickly fill job application forms on supported career sites using the resume and profile information you manage in your ScoutBetter account. It runs in your browser, detects common job application fields, and populates them with your consent.

2Information We Collect Through the Extension

When you use the Extension, it may temporarily access and store the following information in your browser:

  • Contact details such as your name, email address, phone number, and location.
  • Professional information such as education, degree, school or university, and links to your portfolio, LinkedIn, GitHub, or other sites you choose to save in ScoutBetter.
  • Documents and links such as links to your resume, cover letter, and (if you choose) a PDF version of your resume used for autofill on job application forms.
  • Optional demographic information that you provide in ScoutBetter (for example, gender, race/ethnicity, disability or veteran status, and work authorization information) when it is needed to complete equal opportunity sections of job applications.
  • Job application context such as the job posting URL where you triggered autofill and information about which fields were filled.

This information is pulled from your ScoutBetter usage and stored locally in your browser so the Extension can re-use it on multiple job sites. The Extension does not collect your passwords, payment card numbers, or arbitrary content from web pages.

3How We Use This Information

The information collected and stored by the Extension is used only for the following purposes:

  • To auto-fill job application forms on supported websites.
  • To show you a summary of the most recent data captured for autofill inside the Extension UI.
  • To respect your preferences (for example, whether autofill is turned on or off).

The Extension does not sell your data or share it with advertisers. It does not send your autofill data to our servers; data you submit is sent only to the job sites when you submit their forms.

4Where and How Data Is Stored

  • In-browser storage only. The Extension uses browser-provided storage (Chrome's chrome.storage) to store the most recent autofill data, your autofill on/off preference (which may sync across your Chrome profile), and panel display preferences (e.g. position, hidden state). No autofill data is sent to our servers.
  • Short retention for autofill data. The "last captured" data used to re-trigger autofill is automatically expired after about 30 minutes or when you clear it from the Extension UI.
  • Control in your browser. You can clear autofill data at any time from the Extension UI or by removing the Extension, which removes all data it stored.

5Permissions and How the Extension Interacts With Pages

The Extension requires host permissions so it can read and write to form fields on job application pages. In practice, that means:

  • It scans the current page for input fields that look like name, email, phone, education, and similar resume-related fields, and for resume/CV file upload fields when you have provided a resume for autofill.
  • When you trigger autofill, it writes values from your stored profile into those fields (including attaching your resume PDF to file upload fields when applicable) and dispatches normal browser events such as input and change so the website reacts correctly.
  • It does not read arbitrary text content from the page, your emails, passwords, or any fields that are not related to job applications.

6What We Do Not Collect

The Extension is specifically designed to avoid collecting:

  • Your account passwords or authentication tokens for any site.
  • Your payment card numbers or banking information.
  • Arbitrary browsing history beyond the URLs of pages where you actively use the Extension for job applications.
  • Content from pages that is unrelated to filling job application forms.

7Your Choices and Controls

  • Toggle autofill on/off. You can enable or disable autofill at any time from the Extension popup. When disabled, the Extension will not auto-fill forms or use stored autofill data on job sites.
  • Clear recent data. You can clear the most recent captured autofill data directly from the Extension UI.
  • Uninstall. You can remove the Extension at any time from your browser's extension settings. This also removes any data stored by the Extension in your browser.

8Children's Privacy

The Extension is intended for adult job seekers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 through the Extension. If you believe a child under 16 has used the Extension with their own personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

9Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product changes or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Extension after any changes means you accept the updated policy.
